Wongchu Peak & Musa Masala National Sport Climbing Championship 2025 Successfully Concludes
The Nepal Climbing Sport Association (NCSA) successfully organized the ‘Wongchu Peak & Musa Masala National Sport Climbing Championship 2025’ on March 21st and 22nd, marking a significant milestone in the development of sport climbing in Nepal. This event was the first national-level sport climbing championship held after six years, attracting top athletes from across the country. The event was inaugurated on March 21st by the Chief Guest, Mr. Tanka Lal Ghishing, Member Secretary of the Nepal Sports Council.
This championship was made possible with the technical support of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), which provided a chief route setter, ensuring high technical standards for the competition. The competition was played under the rules and regulations of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC), maintaining international standards and fairness.
Championship Format & Highlights
The event was held over two days. On March 21st, the men’s qualification round took place, where 13 athletes competed, and 8 climbers advanced to the final round. The women’s category went directly to the final round on March 22nd, making for an intense and thrilling competition.
For the first time in Nepal, this championship was conducted in the combined discipline format (Lead and Bouldering), following the IFSC points system. The winners were declared based on their combined scores from both disciplines, setting a new standard for sport climbing competitions in the country.
The championship featured outstanding performances from Nepal’s best climbers. Tenzing Rai claimed the Men’s Championship Title, while Swastika Chaudhary dominated the Women’s Category. Both champions were awarded NPR 50,000 along with medals and certificates.

- 🏆 Champion: Tenzing Rai – 1,805 points (Bouldering: 1,000 | Lead: 805)
- 🥈 1st Runner-up: Pemba Chewang Sherpa Rai – 1,690 points (Bouldering: 690 | Lead: 1,000)
- 🥉 2nd Runner-up: Ronak Upreti – 1,495 points (Bouldering: 805 | Lead: 690)
Women’s Category Results:
- 🏆 Champion: Swastika Chaudhary – 2,000 points (Bouldering: 1,000 | Lead: 1,000)
- 🥈 1st Runner-up: Rusha Pradhan – 1,610 points (Bouldering: 805 | Lead: 805)
- 🥉 2nd Runner-up: Manisha Budha Magar – 1,380 points (Bouldering: 690 | Lead: 690)
All winners received medals, certificates, and cash prizes, with the 1st and 2nd runners-up receiving NPR 30,000 and NPR 20,000, respectively.
Future of Sport Climbing in Nepal
Speaking on the occasion, NCSA Acting President Ramesh Poudel highlighted the importance of this championship and the association’s long-term vision:
“With the support of our team and sponsors, we have successfully revived the National Championship. This is just the beginning—our goal is to prepare Nepali climbers for international platforms, including the Olympics.”
The championship is expected to pave the way for new athletes and strengthen Nepal’s position in the global climbing arena. The association is committed to organizing the National Sport Climbing Championship annually, providing climbers with a structured competitive platform.
Additionally, Deepak Lama, Member Secretary of the Bagmati Province Sports Development Council, emphasized the province’s commitment to supporting sport climbing, recognizing its immense potential for Nepal’s adventure sports and tourism sectors.
