The Nepal Climbing Sport Association (NCSA) was founded in 2010 following our slogan “Dedicated to promote Adventure sports and Tourism.” As the national body for sport climbing in Nepal, NCSA is officially connected to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and registered under the National Sports Council of Nepal (NSC-88). NCSA is also a full member of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC). Our primary goal is to popularize this sport across the country by organizing sport climbing events, training programs, workshops, and competitions for the youth of Nepal, thus fostering its growth on a national scale. Nepal is renowned for its opportunities in mountaineering and adventure sports, and sport climbing has the potential to significantly enhance adventure tourism in the region.
On August 12, 2023, the Nepal Climbing Sport Association (NCSA) successfully held its 6th General Assembly and Election in Kathmandu, Nepal. The event was graced by notable figures including Mr. Tanka Lal Ghishing, Member Secretary of Nepal Sport Council, Mr. Prakash Adhikari, Mayor of Tokha Municipality, and Mr. Dhan Bahadur Gurung, Secretary of Nepal Mountain Association (NMA), Representatives from related provincial sport climbing associations, athletes, guests from relatable organizations, and journalists also attended. These dignitaries delivered speeches on behalf of their respective organizations, offering their support and best wishes for the assembly and election proceedings.
- Our Chief Guest, Mr. Tanka Lal Ghishing, discussed the challenges within the sports sector and presented insights into effective administration for sport associations, along with new strategies. He also pledged to organize the inaugural international adventure sports game in 2024, where sport climbing would be a prominent feature.
- Our special guest, Mr. Prakash Adhikari, the Mayor of Tokha Municipality, expressed his commitment to allocate land for the construction of an Indoor Sport climbing wall. He also highlighted the significant potential of this sport.
The ad hoc committee coordinator, Mr. Hari Prasad Dharel, concluded the inauguration by thanking participants, including past association members and related organizations, in his speech.
After lunch, we proceeded to a closed-door session attended by representatives nationwide. With 36 members from the representative commission and 4 from the Nepal Sports Council’s election commission, Mr. Dharel presented and secured majority approval for the progress and financial reports. He also shared upcoming budget and plans.
Highlighting our vision, he stated, “NCSA aims to represent Nepal in future Olympics, including sport climbing in the 2024 Paris and LA 2028 Games. Our goal is to showcase Nepal’s sport climbing talent globally, elevating our nation’s sports reputation.” He then handed over to the election commission for selecting new NCSA board members.
The 6th General Assembly and election followed our association’s rules carefully; making sure everything was clear, fair, and democratic. According to NCSA regulations, eight committee members will be chosen through direct elections, while the other seven will receive nominations from the elected committee. The Nepal Sports Council will nominate the remaining members, totaling 17 on the working committee. On that day, 16 new board members were selected through elections and nominations, leaving only one position to be nominated by the Nepal Sports Council.

During the closing ceremony of NCSA’s 6th General Assembly and Election, Mr. Jeevan Ram Shrestha, President of the Nepal Olympic Committee and former Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation of Nepal, served as the chief guest. He extended congratulations to all elected and nominated board members and offered valuable advice. He emphasized our geographical advantage for this sport and encouraged us to work positively to secure medals in international competitions.
At the event’s conclusion, the newly elected president, Mr. Hari Prasad Dharel, expressed gratitude and congratulations to the elected and nominated board members, representatives, and the election commission for ensuring a fair election. He also pledged to initiate progressive projects in this sports domain through the association, bringing the program to an end.
